Heavily armed police closed roads and held back protesters from raiding the offices of Sri Lanka Cricket as moves to oust corrupt officials gathered momentum for a seventh day running.
Protesters also braved heavy rain a short distance away from Parliament where both the Opposition and Government reached a consensus to have the cricket administration led by Shammi Silva taken out.
Another protest group threatened to invade the homes and premises of cricket officials if they continue to defy the ouster endorsed by Parliament.
“There is proof cricket has been sold to illegal betting companies and today (November 9) marks the start of a clean up operation to rid Sri Lanka Cricket of rogues and thieves”, said Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa who also claimed he faced threats from sinister elements to silence him.
Meanwhile Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe continued his unrelenting onslaught against cricket officials telling Parliament that rogue elements at Sri Lanka Cricket attempted to siphon off two million US dollars from a bank fearing their impending ouster.
But in a media statement Sri Lanka Cricket dismissed the accusation made by Minister Ranasinghe.
