In a fiery response, Namal Rajapaksa dismisses the government’s drug container allegations as political theater, vowing to face any investigation while demanding the real culprits be exposed.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa has hit back at the government after security forces identified two containers allegedly linked to the production of “ice.” Speaking to journalists, Rajapaksa said he was fully prepared to confront the accusations head-on and condemned what he described as baseless political mudslinging.
“We are ready to face the allegations made regarding these two containers. Since the NPP and the Good Governance government came to power, all they have done is accuse us,” Rajapaksa declared. He pointed out that he and his family had already been dragged through the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Bribery Commission, the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID), and the courts. “Similarly, we are ready to face any investigation regarding the allegations regarding these drug containers,” he added.
Rajapaksa further claimed that these attacks were nothing new, emphasizing that political opponents have repeatedly used state institutions to target him and his family. However, he insisted that this latest accusation would collapse like the ones before.
He also demanded transparency from the government, calling on authorities to publicly reveal the true identities of those behind the controversial containers. “The government must reveal the identities of the individuals truly involved in this container incident,” he said.
With tensions high, the former minister framed the allegations as part of a larger smear campaign against the Rajapaksas, warning that the people will soon see through what he described as desperate political tactics.
