The Founder of The Churchill Institute (Sri Lanka), Mr. Srinath Fernando, JP, LLM (UK), LLM (Colombo), has formally submitted a nomination proposing His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, and former United States President Donald J. Trump as joint recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2026.
The nomination was addressed to Mr. Simon Davies, Consul General of Norway in Doha, Qatar, requesting that the matter be conveyed through appropriate diplomatic channels to the Norwegian Nobel Committee and the Government of Norway. Mr. Fernando also requested that the Office of His Highness the Amir be informed of the submission.
In his communication, Mr. Fernando stated that both nominees “have contributed significantly toward peace efforts” and that such contributions “deserve formal recognition at the global level in 2026.”
Mr. Fernando is the Founder of The Churchill Institute, a public policy and governance-oriented institution based in Sri Lanka. He is also a former General Manager of the European Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka and Editor/Publisher of KC – The King’s Counsel Magazine.
Churchill Institute Concludes Training on Political Lobbying and Public Affairs
In a separate development, The Churchill Institute successfully completed a specialised training program on Political Lobbying, Public Affairs Consulting, and Advocacy on 1 November 2025. The program was designed for graduates and young professionals, introducing them to practical tools required for careers in government relations, policy advisory roles, community engagement, and corporate public affairs.
According to Mr. Fernando, the program was organised to fill a long-standing gap in Sri Lanka’s higher education landscape, as no local university currently offers structured training in political lobbying or public affairs. The Institute has also indicated its intention to expand the program by incorporating modules on public administration to allow participation by public sector officers.
