A shocking social media clip sparks swift action from education authorities, leaving a Colombo school reeling as teachers are moved, a student body dissolved, and police step in.
The Ministry of Education has confirmed that two teachers accused of maintaining an inappropriate relationship with the head student leader of a leading Colombo school have been removed from the institution with immediate effect.
Secretary to the Ministry, Nalaka Kaluwewa, said the two teachers have been attached to the Provincial Education Office following the incident. However, it has been reported that the teachers are yet to report to their new postings.
The principal of the school has submitted a detailed report on the matter to the Ministry of Education. Based on the findings in that report, further legal and disciplinary action is expected. Authorities have also launched an internal investigation within the school to examine possible administrative lapses and misconduct.
The student allegedly involved in the incident has been expelled from the school, while officials have taken the decision to dissolve the student council of the college, citing serious reputational damage and disciplinary concerns.
Meanwhile, the student’s father has lodged a formal complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department, stating that his son was humiliated and emotionally distressed after the video went viral on social media platforms.
In his complaint, the father has urged authorities to identify those responsible for releasing the footage and to initiate legal action against them. Police headquarters sources confirm that the CID has launched a special investigation into the matter.
