Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage declares 2026 will mark the firm enforcement of rule of law, distancing the NPP from underworld links and drug networks while accusing past blue and green regimes of political protection rackets.
Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage has strongly rejected allegations linking the National People’s Power to underworld groups, stating that previous administrations aligned with the traditional blue and green political camps had openly nurtured criminal networks and even accommodated them within party central committees.
Addressing the media, he described 2026 as a decisive year for Sri Lanka, emphasizing that strict law enforcement and governance reforms will define the country’s political landscape. He stressed that the present government has no ties to organized crime, drug trafficking, or any underworld operations.
Hewage acknowledged that isolated incidents continue to surface but affirmed that the government is prepared to take responsibility and act decisively to uphold accountability, transparency, and the rule of law.
