Explosive complaint alleges fabricated ASTM coal reports, political sabotage, and a calculated attempt to destabilize Sri Lanka’s energy sector.
The Civil Intelligence Front has lodged a formal complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department, alleging that recent claims about cheap coal imports are part of a coordinated anti state conspiracy driven by opposition figures.
Speaking to the media after filing the complaint, organizer Sanjaya Mahawatte accused individuals including Ajith P. Perera, S.M. Marikkar and Vidura Ralapanawa of attempting to create political unrest using what he described as fabricated technical reports. He claimed the controversy surrounding coal procurement and the Lakvijaya Power Plant is being deliberately manipulated to damage the government’s credibility.
Mahawatte pointed to what he called serious technical inconsistencies in the documents circulated by the opposition. One report reportedly references the year 2017 due to an editing error, while others mention future dates such as 2025 and 2026. He argued that Sri Lanka does not possess the equipment required to produce such ASTM standard coal quality reports, suggesting the documents were manufactured.
He further questioned whether the dispute stems from the alleged loss of commission earnings linked to past Lakvijaya coal deals. The Civil Intelligence Front has urged the CID to investigate the origin of the six disputed reports and identify those responsible.
