Sri Lanka Cricket will be rebuilt to target World Cup success, Sports Minister says, backing Eran Wickramaratne to lead reform.
Sri Lanka Cricket will be lifted again to a level capable of winning World Cup trophies, Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage has declared.
The Minister said he firmly believes Sri Lanka can bring back another cricket spring for the people, restoring national pride through a stronger and more competitive cricket structure.
He emphasized that in this journey, nation, religion, or politics will not be considered. According to him, the government’s only focus is to bring in capable individuals who can contribute to building the country.
Minister Gamage said Eran Wickramaratne, who has been appointed Chairman of the Cricket Transformation Committee, is both a skilled administrator and a talented former cricketer.
He stated that he has placed his full trust in Wickramaratne to help guide the reform process and support Sri Lanka’s cricket revival.
The Minister also revealed that appointment letters have not yet been handed over to Kumar Sangakkara and Roshan Mahanama, who were appointed as members of the committee, because they are currently overseas.
He said the relevant appointment letters will be handed over as soon as they return to Sri Lanka.
What happens next could be critical, as the committee’s work is expected to be expedited once all members formally assume their roles.
