SLC financial crisis fears grow as interim committee limits finance operations, ICC funds remain uncertain and supplier payments stall.
SLC financial crisis concerns are rising after internal sources warned that Sri Lanka Cricket could face severe financial trouble unless its accounts are regularised and financial operations are restored.
According to sources, the interim committee, also referred to as the transformative committee, appointed to administer cricket currently has no authority to handle finances.
As a result, SLC members cannot approve its accounts, while funds from the International Cricket Council (ICC) may not be received by Sri Lanka until a new administration is appointed through a future election.
SLC’s current financial position is reportedly not healthy. At the time the interim committee was appointed, the cricket body is said to have had only enough financial strength to continue operations for the next three months.
Given that situation, the previous administration had been working to secure six additional cricket matches with India in order to stabilise Sri Lanka’s cricket finances. However, following their removal from office, that additional series has now become uncertain.
Meanwhile, because the current interim committee has no mechanism to manage finances, payments are reportedly not being made to suppliers who are owed money by SLC.
Sources say that if the situation continues much longer, suppliers could place severe pressure on the cricket institute.
Considering these circumstances, steps are now being taken to convene the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 31st of this month.
The main objective of the administration at the AGM will be to get the relevant accounts approved and restore a measure of financial order.
