A Homagama police officer arrested after allegedly hitting two young women, fleeing both scenes and driving under the influence of alcohol.
A Homagama police officer arrested after two alleged hit-and-run crashes has been produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court.
Police identified the suspect as a Chief Inspector serving as officer-in-charge of the Special Investigation Unit attached to the Homagama Senior Superintendent of Police Division.
The alleged incidents occurred at two locations during the night of the 25th. Police said the first crash happened near the Megoda fuel station on High Level Road.
The second occurred near the Wattaraka 20th Post area.
Both incidents reportedly took place between 11:30 p.m. and 11:57 p.m. The officer allegedly drove away after striking two young women.
Preliminary investigations indicated that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol.
Megoda Police arrested the Chief Inspector and later produced him before court. Authorities are continuing investigations into the two crashes and the officer’s alleged attempt to leave the scenes.
