Yan Diomande Real Madrid transfer could reach €140m as the 19-year-old Ivory Coast star joins from RB Leipzig until 2033.
MADRID — The Yan Diomande Real Madrid transfer has been completed, with the Spanish giants signing the 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger from RB Leipzig on a seven-year contract through June 2033.
Real Madrid did not disclose the transfer fee in its official announcement. However, reports place the guaranteed payment at €125 million, with performance-related add-ons potentially taking the total package to €140 million. If all bonuses are triggered, the deal would make Diomandé the most expensive African footballer in history and could set a new Real Madrid transfer record.
Yan Diomande Real Madrid Move Makes History
Diomandé’s arrival also represents a notable moment in Real Madrid’s recruitment history. He becomes the club’s first permanent men’s first-team signing of an established African international since Mali midfielder Mahamadou Diarra joined from Lyon in 2006.
During the 20 years between those transfers, Emmanuel Adebayor and Michael Essien joined Real Madrid on loan. Meanwhile, Achraf Hakimi reached the senior side after progressing through the club’s academy.
The teenager attracted interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs during the summer. Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain were all linked with moves for the winger. However, Real Madrid ultimately secured his signature for their first-team plans.
Diomandé’s rise has been remarkably fast. Raised in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, he played on dirt pitches before pursuing a professional career. He also experienced setbacks after unsuccessful trials with Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Rangers and Olympiacos.
CD Leganés eventually gave him an opportunity in January 2025. Diomandé made his senior debut in Spain at the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Madrid.
