Namal Rajapaksa arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption this morning after appearing to provide a statement over the SriLankan Airlines Airbus aircraft purchase.
The Parliamentarian had been instructed to appear before the Bribery Commission at 9.00 am today.
Accordingly, he arrived before the Commission and provided a statement regarding the ongoing investigation.
Officials arrested Rajapaksa while he was present at the Commission following questioning over alleged irregularities connected to the Airbus transaction.
Investigation teams had previously recorded statements from several other parties in relation to the same matter.
The Commission then questioned Rajapaksa as part of its continuing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the aircraft purchase.

Former Minister Johnston Fernando was arrested by CIABOC over an alleged Rs. 7.4 million procurement irregularity involving chairs for a Kandy theatre.
