A heartbreaking incident occurred last night at the luxurious Altair apartment building in Slave Island, Colombo, where a 15-year-old boy and girl tragically lost their lives after falling from the 67th floor.
Authorities suspect that the incident might be a case of double suicide. The teenagers, both Grade 10 students at an international school in Colombo 07, reportedly went to the gym on the building’s fifth floor after school. After changing clothes and leaving their school bags at the gym, they proceeded to the 67th floor via an exterior staircase.
Their bodies were later discovered near the air conditioning units on the third floor of the complex. The impact from the fall resulted in severe injuries caused by colliding with the A/C vent machines.
The deceased teenagers have been identified as a male student from Wellawatte and a female student from Kelaniya. Preliminary police investigations revealed that the two were in a romantic relationship.
Slave Island Police have recorded statements from the parents of both students and are examining CCTV footage to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. While initial reports suggest a possible double suicide, it has yet to be confirmed whether the deaths were indeed intentional or accidental.
Authorities are urging those in crisis to seek help immediately.
