(COLOMBO) – A budget airline flight en route from Dubai to Colombo was forced to make an emergency landing at Pakistan’s Karachi airport following the sudden deterioration of a female passenger’s health, airline officials said.
The 57-year-old Sri Lankan woman, identified as Palawini, died during the flight.
According to the officials, the incident occurred when the woman’s health suddenly worsened mid-flight on the Dubai-Colombo flight. The flight captain immediately requested Karachi’s air traffic control for an emergency landing at its airport to seek urgent medical assistance.
Upon landing, doctors from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) boarded the aircraft to check on the passenger. Despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead.
Officials said that she had suffered from a cardiac arrest during the flight.
Later the flight carrying her body departed from Karachi airport to its original destination in Colombo.
