A Mawlawi and his brother have been detained by the Police Special Task Force (STF) in Oddamavadi after being found in possession of weapons, including two firearms and a substantial amount of ammunition.
According to Acting Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ruwan Gunasekara, the suspects were apprehended during a raid conducted in Aralaganwila on the night of July 30. The operation was based on intelligence information provided by the army. The authorities seized two T-56 assault rifles, two magazines, 60 rounds of ammunition, a sword, and a pair of binoculars from the suspects.
The STF’s intervention followed concerns about the potential misuse of these weapons. The arrested individuals have been transferred to the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) for further questioning and investigation.
This arrest underscores ongoing efforts to address security threats and ensure public safety by disrupting the illegal possession and potential misuse of firearms and ammunition.
