Colombo, July 23, 2024 — In a pivotal move to enhance digital security, the Cabinet has approved a new bill to amend the Act on Security of Online Systems. This decision was made during the Cabinet meeting on July 12, 2024, and the bill has since been reviewed and cleared by the Attorney General.
The proposed amendments aim to address evolving cybersecurity challenges and strengthen protections for online systems. Following the Cabinet’s endorsement, the Minister of Public Security, Mr. Tiran Alas, proposed publishing the draft bill in the government gazette. This step was also approved in the Cabinet meeting held on July 22, 2024.
The next phase involves presenting the draft bill to Parliament for consideration and approval. This legislative process marks a significant step towards bolstering the nation’s online security framework.
