Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s Badulla district candidate Chaminda Wijesiri has alleged that a conspiracy to abolish his civic rights was supported by members within his own political camp. Speaking at a public meeting in Mahiyangana, Wijesiri shared his concerns about the internal political plot against him, accusing some colleagues of collaborating to remove him from his parliamentary position.
He asserted, “If there’s one out of 225 members of parliament who can prove they didn’t steal or cheat, it’s Chaminda Wijesiri. I managed to do that because we worked honestly for the people.” He described his exit from parliament as being marred by a behind-the-scenes effort to strip him of his civic rights, with some party members allegedly providing distorted evidence against him.
Addressing accusations of fraud and corruption, Wijesiri challenged his detractors to take legal action if they had proof of wrongdoing. He criticized those who wielded governmental power yet continued to levy unsubstantiated charges, questioning why long-touted evidence had not yet been acted upon.
Referring to the current administration’s claims of possessing 400 incriminating files, Wijesiri said, “Now the power is in their hands. They should take action on those files instead of merely talking about them.”
