Barbados, September 6, 2024 — Sri Lanka’s rising cricket star Dunith Wellalage continues to impress in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), delivering outstanding performances for the Barbados Royals. In their recent match against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Dunith excelled in both bowling and batting, helping his team secure a thrilling victory.
Wellalage took 3 wickets for 35 runs, and later contributed with the bat, scoring 39 runs off 32 balls. His all-around performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
In addition to Wellalage, fellow Sri Lankan Maheesh Theekshana also contributed to the Royals’ win, taking 2 wickets for just 16 runs. On the opposing side, Wanindu Hasaranga showcased his skills, scoring a quick-fire 40 off 27 balls and taking one wicket for 33 runs.
St. Kitts, batting first, posted 153/8 in their 20 overs. Chasing a target of 154, the Barbados Royals reached their target with just one ball to spare.
The Barbados Royals, having won both of their matches so far, are currently placed second on the points table in the CPL 2024, with Wellalage’s contributions playing a key role in their success.
