Colombo, Sri Lanka — September 23, 2024 – World leaders and diplomats are extending their congratulations to Anura Kumara Dissanayake following his election as the new President of Sri Lanka. In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu congratulated Dissanayake on his election victory, expressing hopes for strengthened bilateral ties and mutual progress between the two nations.
The Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mizukoshi Hideaki, issued a statement expressing heartfelt congratulations on behalf of Japan. “This marks a significant moment in Sri Lanka’s journey as the country continues to recover from its economic challenges. I sincerely wish your excellency great success in leading the country towards sustainable development and enhancing international cooperation,” Ambassador Mizukoshi stated.
Similarly, U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung also took to X to congratulate the new president. “We congratulate President-elect Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Sri Lankan people for peacefully exercising their democratic rights. The United States looks forward to continuing our strong partnership and working together on shared priorities,” she wrote.
British High Commissioner Andrew Patrick echoed these sentiments, lauding Dissanayake’s victory and highlighting the enduring friendship between the UK and Sri Lanka. “Congratulations to President-elect Anura Dissanayake. Sri Lanka and the UK share a long-standing friendship, close economic ties, and many shared values. I look forward to working with the President and his government,” he posted on X.
