Former Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has dismissed claims by the opposition that he personally benefited from fuel sales during his tenure. Speaking at a public meeting in Matara, Wijesekera responded to long-standing accusations from the National People’s Force, asserting that the latest fuel price revision proves such allegations were unfounded.
He remarked that if money from fuel sales had indeed been “going into his pocket” as alleged, then the same would now be true for Anura Dissanayake, the current minister overseeing the energy sector. Wijesekera thanked the government for what he sees as a validation of the truth, implying that recent decisions reflect a deeper understanding of fuel sale mechanisms.
The former minister expressed hope that the public would now discern the reality behind criticisms leveled against him and the fuel pricing policies, which have been a point of contention for opposition parties and other groups. His comments aimed to highlight what he perceives as baseless accusations and to shift focus onto the current administration’s handling of fuel revenues.
