The Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP), led by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, has announced its support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the forthcoming presidential election. This endorsement comes as the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has also pledged its unwavering backing for Wickremesinghe.
In addition, 92 Members of Parliament, including various Ministers and State Ministers, have recently met with Wickremesinghe and assured their support for his re-election. Despite the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) deciding to field its own candidate, some SLPP MPs and Ministers have expressed their support for Wickremesinghe.
The backing from both the MEP and SLFP highlights a growing coalition of support for the incumbent President as he prepares for the upcoming election.
