Hirial, September 16, 2024 — Johnston Fernando, Member of Parliament for Kurunegala, confidently predicted that Namal Rajapaksa will secure a decisive victory in the district in the upcoming presidential election. Speaking at a public rally in Hirial, Fernando expressed strong confidence in the district’s support for Rajapaksa, noting that Kurunegala has previously delivered the highest number of votes in Sri Lankan history to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He believes this trend will continue with Namal Rajapaksa.
Fernando criticized the other presidential candidates, including Anura Kumara Dissanayake, accusing them of failing to advance the country. He contrasted their record with Rajapaksa’s leadership, defending the achievements of Mahinda Rajapaksa’s administration, which he claimed were undone by the subsequent “good governance” government. Fernando emphasized that Namal Rajapaksa, as the son of Mahinda Rajapaksa, is well-positioned to restore and build upon past progress.
