UN Chief Slams ‘Greed-Driven Exploitation’ of Sri Lanka’s Seas by Illegal Fishing Fleets Sri Lanka ranks among the highest in the world in terms of breastfeeding indicators and has become the first country to be granted ‘Green Status’ by the World Breastfeeding Trends initiative (WBTi). The Cabinet of Ministers has approved on 16-10-2018 to introduce legal provisions to promote breastfeeding through an Act with the aim of protecting children from the unethical and harmful effects of the milk powder industry on children for commercial purposes, protecting breastfeeding as a key intervention that has been scientifically proven, and ensuring that the country continues to be recognized as a global leader in breastfeeding. Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Health and Mass Media to grant the policy approval of the current Cabinet to prepare the relevant draft Bill.
