A Sri Lankan Police Inspector was killed after he was run over by a car driven by a woman police sergeant in the North-Central town of Anuradhapura, police said on Saturday.
They said that the IP was riding a motorcycle when he was hit in the rear by the WPS on Thursday and succumbed to his injuries at the Anuradhapura Government Hospital the following day.
The victim was identified B. Sunil Chandrasiri and he was the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kebithigollewa Police Division.
The WPS attached to the nearby Ambanpola police station was subsequently released on bail after she was produced before a local Magistrate, police said.
