(COLOMBO) – A 71-year-old Sri Lankan woman was arrested after she allegedly stole an automated ticket machine from a bus conductor believing it was a mobile phone.
The incident was reported from the coastal town of Galle some 72 miles from the Commercial capital of Colombo on Friday, police said.
They said the woman is alleged to have picked up the phone that remained idle on the seat of a State-operated public passenger bus.
Later as she fiddled with the digits she found to her amazement that bus tickets were popping out at a random instead of telephone calls.
The jittery woman later decided to hand it over to officials at the bus station only to be promptly arrested and handed over to police.
The woman was subsequently produced before a local Magistrate and released after a warning.
