Colombo, July 30 – Member of Parliament Wimal Weerawansa has called upon Trinitarian High Priests to take action against what he describes as a plan to subjugate Sri Lanka to foreign control. In a letter addressed to the Trianikaika patriarchs, Weerawansa expressed concerns about perceived threats to national sovereignty and urged religious leaders to oppose any efforts that could compromise the country’s independence.
The letter, presented today to the Trinitarian High Priests, reflects Weerawansa’s ongoing campaign against what he sees as external interference in Sri Lankan affairs. He argues that recent developments could undermine the nation’s autonomy and seeks to mobilize religious authorities to safeguard the country’s sovereignty.
Weerawansa’s call comes amid growing discussions and debates about Sri Lanka’s international relations and internal policies. The MP’s move is part of a broader political strategy to rally support from influential religious figures and the public against what he views as detrimental foreign influences.
The response from the Trinitarian High Priests and their stance on the issue remain to be seen, but Weerawansa’s letter underscores the heightened sensitivity and concern surrounding Sri Lanka’s national sovereignty in the current political climate.
