Palitha Range Bandara, the General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP), has categorically denied media reports suggesting that he has been removed from his position. Speaking at a press conference held at the UNP headquarters in Sirikotha on August 30, Bandara clarified that no official communication regarding his dismissal has been received, either by him or by party leader Ranil Wickramasinghe.
Bandara emphasized that he remains in his position and has not tendered his resignation. He also indicated that the party leadership has not issued any formal notice of his removal. Addressing the ongoing speculation, Bandara reassured that he would soon respond to all allegations made against him.
“I have not yet officially resigned from the position of General Secretary. Also, the leader of the party Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe has not given an official notice that I have been removed from the position of General Secretary,” Bandara stated. He further added, “I will answer all these accusations. A UNP guy. See you later. Going home.”
The press conference comes amid reports of internal conflicts within the UNP, with rumors circulating about potential leadership changes. Bandara’s firm denial seeks to quash these rumors and reaffirm his ongoing commitment to his role within the party.
The situation has drawn attention from political observers, as the UNP continues to navigate its position in the broader political landscape. Bandara’s statements aim to bring clarity to the situation and maintain stability within the party ranks.
