Kesbewa, September 5, 2024 – Sarvajana Balaya presidential candidate, Dilith Jayaweera, launched a scathing attack on his fellow contenders during a public meeting in Kesbewa, accusing them of failing to present meaningful solutions for the people. Speaking at the event under his “Dilith Gamata” constituency meeting series, Jayaweera claimed that the policy statements of his opponents offer nothing of substance to improve citizens’ lives.
“All these candidates have published their policy books—green, purple, yellow says their manifesto. but not a single sentence in them will change your life. This is just another chapter in their ongoing business of deception,” Jayaweera remarked.
He further criticized the current administration, led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, for its handling of the economy. Highlighting multiple price hikes in gas, oil, and electricity, Jayaweera argued that the government’s claims of stabilizing the economy are baseless, stating that “Sri Lanka’s gas consumption has fallen by 40% because people simply cannot afford it anymore.”
Jayaweera urged voters not to support candidates who perpetuate the country’s existing political traditions. “If you vote for those who have shifted north and south, this country will be lost,” he warned. Instead, he called on the electorate to make informed decisions, emphasizing that only a new approach can steer the country away from disaster.
As the presidential race intensifies, Jayaweera’s comments are likely to further polarize opinions ahead of the election, with many awaiting responses from the other candidates he targeted.
