Colombo, September 21 – Foreign Minister Ali Sabri has expressed pride in being part of President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s team, irrespective of the results of the ongoing presidential election.
Sabri highlighted that President Wickremesinghe took office during a period of unprecedented crisis in Sri Lanka, when the country faced severe challenges, including mass emigration, daily queues for basic necessities, soaring inflation, and alarming shortages in essentials such as fuel, medicine, and fertilizer.
Reflecting on the two years since, Sabri pointed out the undeniable transformation that has taken place under Wickremesinghe’s leadership, restoring stability, strengthening the rupee, and bringing inflation under control. He emphasized that the government’s reforms not only boosted revenue but also enhanced the nation’s foreign reserves, leading to a more consolidated fiscal position.
Sabri also mentioned the successful restructuring of Sri Lanka’s debt, which secured a USD 17 billion advantage, and noted that with continued adherence to the DSA benchmarks, Sri Lanka could move towards sustained economic growth.
The foreign minister shared these sentiments on his social media account, commending Wickremesinghe’s courageous leadership during one of the country’s most difficult periods and expressing hope for the future.
