Colombo – In a significant political development, Palani Digambaram, the Deputy Leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA), has announced that his party has agreed to join forces with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) for the upcoming general election. This collaboration is aimed at strengthening the coalition’s chances of securing a majority and making SJB leader Sajith Premadasa the next Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
Digambaram confirmed that a meeting took place in Colombo with Sajith Premadasa, where TPA leader Mano Ganesan was also present. Following the discussion, the TPA expressed its willingness to form a united front with the SJB, signaling a broader alliance aimed at consolidating the Tamil vote and other progressive factions.
Digambaram emphasized that Premadasa and other leaders of the SJB had assured the TPA that they would not collaborate with Velukumar, a former Kandy district MP who had previously broken away from the Tamil Progressive Alliance to align with the SJB.
The alliance between the TPA and the SJB marks a strategic move in Sri Lankan politics, particularly as the country prepares for a crucial election. By uniting their efforts, the coalition aims to present a formidable challenge to the ruling government, positioning Premadasa as a strong contender for the premiership.
