Cuban Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Andres Marcelo Gonzalez Gorrido, has announced that the Cuban government is focusing on the production of medicines in Sri Lanka. During a recent meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ambassador conveyed greetings from the Cuban government to Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
The discussion aimed at reinforcing the nearly 65-year diplomatic relationship between Sri Lanka and Cuba covered several collaborative initiatives. Among the topics were the resumption of mosquito control projects previously supported by Cuba, as well as the provision of scholarships for medical and sports education to Sri Lankan training institutes and universities.
Despite facing significant economic challenges in recent years, Prime Minister Amarasuriya expressed her appreciation for Cuba’s ongoing support. She also extended an official invitation to the Cuban Prime Minister to visit Sri Lanka, highlighting the potential for further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The meeting included key figures such as Prime Minister’s Secretary Pradeep Saputantri and Additional Secretary Mahinda Gunaratne, along with a delegation of senior officials from the Cuban government.
