At a public meeting in Kirindawela on October 21, entrepreneur and leader Mr. Dilith Jayaweera emphasized the emergence of a new political force in Sri Lanka, rooted in the aspirations of the people. He highlighted the recent election, where 43% of voters expressed their dissatisfaction with the existing political landscape, driven by long-standing corruption and oppression faced by ordinary citizens.
Jayaweera pointed out that the electorate’s frustrations stemmed from years of witnessing corrupt practices, leading them to seek an alternative that resonates with their needs. He noted that the recent rise of a political force, which garnered significant support, reflects a collective desire for change.
Despite facing ridicule on social media for his statements, Jayaweera maintained that the call for a new political direction is both valid and necessary. He criticized the prevailing political environment, where citizens feel marginalized, asserting that a transformation is essential for the country’s future.
“We are committed to creating a politics we can be proud of,” Jayaweera declared. He underscored his dedication to local representation, stating, “I come to Gampaha unlike those who came from outside Gampaha before. Until I finish my politics one day, I will do politics in Gampaha itself.” His remarks highlight a focus on grassroots engagement and accountability, positioning his movement as a response to the public’s demand for genuine political reform.
