In response to complaints from district and divisional secretaries across Sri Lanka, Minister Vijitha Herath has established a ten-member expert committee dedicated to reviewing welfare cuts under the Aswasuma Social Welfare Benefit Program. This committee is tasked with identifying individuals who were unfairly removed from the welfare program and recommending relief measures to rectify these injustices.
Ministry Secretary Ranjith Ariyaratne highlighted that the committee’s investigations will focus on cases where recipients who depended on welfare benefits suddenly lost them due to administrative errors or misjudgments. The formation of this committee underscores the government’s commitment to upholding fairness in its social welfare policies and providing redress to those affected by unjust decisions.
This move aims to ensure that the welfare system effectively supports those in genuine need and re-establishes trust in the government’s welfare initiatives.
