In Lidnula, police intercepted a three-wheeler carrying a significant amount of campaign material for the United Democratic Party on November 3. The vehicle, carrying over a thousand posters and leaflets, was stopped by officers along the Hatton-Nuwara Eliya main road in the Lamarier Watta area, as it appeared suspicious due to the large volume of materials.
Upon further inspection, officers discovered that the materials displayed preference numbers of a candidate contesting in the Nuwara Eliya district. Preliminary investigations revealed that the campaign materials were destined for distribution in areas surrounding local estates in Nuwara Eliya.
The driver, along with the three-wheeler and the seized posters and leaflets, was taken into custody by Lidnula police. The case is expected to be presented to the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court for further action.
