In a bold call that signals growing internal unrest, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Chaminda Wijesiri has demanded new leadership for the party, asserting that its current path is unsustainable.
Speaking at a media conference, Wijesiri said the party urgently needs to be restructured and its leadership refreshed, all while preserving the unity of SJB. “SJB needs a new leadership,” he declared. “It cannot go on like this.”
He emphasized that the party’s political agenda must evolve into one that genuinely reflects the expectations and aspirations of the Sri Lankan public. “The SJB program must be redesigned into something the citizen expects,” he said, stressing that only then could the party hope to gain momentum ahead of the next election.
Wijesiri insisted that a change in the party’s governing strategy is essential if it is to form the next government. “To take this country forward, we need leadership that has ability, knowledge, and a vision for development,” he said.
His remarks come amid increasing scrutiny of the party’s internal decision-making and waning public confidence, putting further pressure on the SJB leadership to respond decisively or risk fragmentation.
