The Colombo Additional Magistrate, Bandara Ilangasinghe, has instructed the Inland Revenue Department to expedite its investigations into model Piyumi Hansamali and Aura Lanka Company Chairman Viranjith Thambugala. The order was issued during a court hearing on November 11, when the department recalled a case regarding potential violations of the Tax Act.
The Inland Revenue Department had filed the case under Section 190 of the Inland Revenue Act, seeking permission to investigate whether Hansamali and Thambugala had committed any tax-related offenses. During the hearing, Mr. Dinesh Perera, representing the department, informed the court that a search warrant had been obtained to examine the two individuals’ properties for relevant documents. However, the authorities were unable to locate the individuals at their homes at the time of the search. The court has now directed the department to accelerate the investigation process.
