Ridiyagama Safari Park is celebrating a joyous occasion as two lionesses, Lara and her daughter Dora, have each given birth to three lion cubs, totaling six new additions to the park’s lion population. Kasun Hemantha, Assistant Director of the Safari Park, announced that the cubs are healthy and preparations are underway to introduce them to public viewing by the end of this month.
Lara, a 10-year-old lioness, and her 4-year-old daughter, Dora, have made headlines with these births. Dora’s story is particularly remarkable. Born at the park, Dora was rejected by her mother, Lara, and had to be raised by veterinarians and caretakers. Despite this challenging start to life, Dora has matured into a nurturing mother, providing excellent care for her three cubs.
Ridiyagama Safari Park, home to 18 lions including the newborns, is renowned for its efforts in wildlife care and conservation. The birth of these cubs marks a milestone for the park, as it underscores the success of its breeding and animal care programs.
Tourists and wildlife enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the chance to see the cubs up close. Park officials have assured that the viewing experience will be designed to ensure the comfort and safety of both the animals and visitors.
This heartwarming event highlights the park’s commitment to wildlife preservation and offers hope for the continued growth of its lion population.
