At least 15 persons were injured, six seriously after a fire broke out at a textile shop in the Sri Lankan Commercial capital of Colombo on Friday morning, police and hospital officials said.
The local authorities deployed eight fire engine trucks to bring the blaze under control at Second Cross Street Pettah in Colombo.
The location is a densely populated commercial area in the Metropolis and further damage was averted owing to the timely action of the Colombo Fire Brigade positioned in the vicinity.
At least six persons from the injured were being treated for serious burn injuries at the nearby Government National Hospital, the officials said.
The true cause of the fire was not immediately known with officials carrying out further investigations into the incident.
