As part of the “Clean Sri Lanka” project, the Sri Lanka Police, under the directives of the Inspector General of Police, has launched two new traffic operations aimed at reducing accidents and easing traffic congestion.
The first initiative targets vehicles with unauthorized modifications, including loud horns, high-noise silencers, flashing lights, and decorative decals that could contribute to accidents. Drivers operating vehicles with such installations will be warned and instructed to remove them during an initial awareness phase.
The second operation focuses on public transport. Detectives will monitor and report traffic violations committed by bus drivers, ensuring strict enforcement of traffic laws.
The pilot phase of these initiatives will run from January 4 to January 19, 2025. During this period, drivers will be educated about the violations and asked to comply voluntarily. Following this awareness period, the police plan to implement the measures continuously, taking legal action against violators.
The Sri Lanka Police emphasize the importance of adhering to road safety regulations and urge all drivers to adopt disciplined driving habits. This initiative represents a step toward creating a safer and more organized traffic environment under the “Clean Sri Lanka” program.
