The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was remanded on charges of money laundering.
In an open court session, the Magistrate stated that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to justify further remanding the suspect. As a result, Yoshitha Rajapaksa was granted bail under stringent conditions.
The court ordered his release on two sureties of Rs. 50 million each. Additionally, his foreign travel has been prohibited, and he has been directed to report to the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) on the last Sunday of every month. The court also instructed Rajapaksa to avoid influencing witnesses involved in the case.
The decision comes amidst widespread public and legal attention surrounding the allegations against Rajapaksa and the broader context of financial accountability and corruption in Sri Lanka.
