In a powerful display of unity and cultural harmony, the National Vesak Festival brought together Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, and other communities in a vibrant street procession through the scenic town of Nuwara Eliya.
The peaceful parade began at the Gayathri Amman Temple in Hawa Eliya, led by the Venerable Maha Sangha alongside priests from multiple faiths, and concluded at the International Buddhist Center a journey marked not just by celebration, but by solidarity.
This multicultural spectacle featured Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and Christians, with children and youth performing traditional dances and rituals from their respective cultures, drawing cheers and admiration from bystanders lining the streets.
Now on its fourth day, the National Vesak Festival which began on May 10 under the heartwarming theme “Bhajetha Mitte Kalyane” (“Make friends with good friends”) continues to illuminate the central highlands with its message of peace, friendship, and interfaith unity. The celebrations will run until May 16, offering a radiant reminder of Sri Lanka’s spiritual and cultural richness.
