President Anura Dissanayake has initiated a nationwide series of public gatherings titled ‘Suhada Hamuwa’ or ‘Friendly Meetings’ to directly engage with the people and address their concerns. This effort is aimed at strengthening public trust in the government and clarifying misunderstandings regarding recent government actions.
The program, which began in the Kalutara district, is set to extend to almost all districts across the country. It is expected to serve as a platform for the President to communicate government policies and reassure the public about the administration’s long-term plans. Additionally, political analysts see this as a strategic move in preparation for the upcoming local government elections.
During these meetings, President Dissanayake will interact with citizens, listen to their grievances, and outline solutions to ongoing issues. This direct engagement is intended to boost public morale and demonstrate the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
As part of this initiative, the President will visit Jaffna on January 31, marking a significant step in his outreach efforts in the Northern Province. Following his visit to Jaffna, he is scheduled to address several similar meetings in the Kurunegala district, continuing his dialogue with the public.
Government sources indicate that these gatherings will focus on key issues such as economic recovery, social welfare programs, and national unity, while also addressing misinformation and political opposition narratives.
The ‘Suhada Hamuwa’ meetings are expected to play a crucial role in shaping public perception ahead of upcoming elections, reinforcing the President’s message of inclusive governance and people-centered leadership.
