A woman was arrested after she is alleged to have cut her husband’s genitals with an arecunut clipper while he slept at their family home in Anuradhapura-north-central Sri Lanka, police said on Friday.
They said the man sustained a two-inch slash on his genitals and was currently undergoing treatment at the State-owned hospital in Anuradhpaura.
He remains in a stable condition but told officers on his reservations on returning home following the bizarre incident.
The motive for the woman’s alleged action was not immediately known and the court directed the police to produce the suspect before a psychiatrist.
Local Chief Magistrate Anuradhapura Nalaka Sanjeewa Jayasuriya later released the woman identified as W. P. Darshika Bhagya Sanjeewa Dissanayake on a Rs. 200,000 (US$ 600-plus) surety bail pending a further court hearing.
