Former Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Tissa Kuttiarachchi has called for the NPP government to step down and hand over power to the SLPP (Pohottuwa) party, asserting that Namal Rajapaksa is the future leader of Sri Lanka.
Speaking to the media, Kuttiarachchi stated that while he had been relatively silent in recent times, he had remained politically active by visiting villages alongside Namal Rajapaksa. He expressed confidence in Namal’s leadership and affirmed his commitment to supporting him as the next leader of the Mahinda Rajapaksa camp.
Kuttiarachchi also blamed Sri Lanka’s economic and political setbacks on the defeat of Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2015, claiming that his government was unfairly labeled as corrupt.
“Before the people rise against this government, it should resign and hand over power to the SLPP, the most experienced political group in the country. We are ready to lead Sri Lanka into the future, enforce the law, and stop political persecution.”
His remarks suggest a renewed push by the Rajapaksa faction to reclaim political dominance, with an emphasis on restoring what they see as strong governance and stability.
