Four members of the same family have gone missing and presumed dead after their home was buried in a wall of mud at Balangoda in Central Sri Lanka on Monday evening, police and disaster management officials said Tuesday.
Monday’s incident brings the total number of weather related deaths to six in the recent days following torrential rains throughout most parts of the island nation.
According to the officials that family of four that included three females were residing close to a hilly slope when the mud came crashing down on their home without a warning.
Volunteers assisted by police and security force personnel are continuing a search for the victims who are believed to have been washed down a stream situated close by, the officials said.
