JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva says that just a few months before the National People’s Power (NPP) came to power, Sri Lanka was in a dire state where many people couldn’t afford three meals a day, and the cost of living had spiraled out of control.
Speaking at an event organized by the NPP, Silva recalled that during those months, schoolchildren were fainting during morning assemblies due to hunger. “That’s how bad it was,” he said, adding that in response, some schools even introduced “rice banks” to support students who came to school without having eaten.
“But now,” he emphasized, “children no longer faint during morning assembly.”
He credited the improvements to the changes brought about under the leadership of the National People’s Power, implying that basic living conditions have significantly improved since they assumed governance.
