Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam has launched a scathing attack on the current government, accusing President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and his party of wrecking the nation’s development trajectory through deception and political sabotage.
Speaking at a media briefing on Sunday (28), Sagara claimed the country, which was on a rapid path of progress under the previous administration, has now ground to a complete halt due to the policies and actions of the National People’s Power (NPP) government.
“This is nothing short of a national crime,” he declared. “This country used to be a hub of opportunity. It was moving forward — developing, advancing — but all of that was shattered and dragged to a standstill.”
Sagara directly blamed the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP)-led government and its leader, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, for this regression. “They did it using two weapons,” he said. “One — spreading lies in society. Two — using those lies to deceive people.”
In a direct appeal to citizens, Sagara warned, “If we want to rebuild, we must realize that a country cannot move forward by spreading hate, telling lies, and dragging down people who actually work.”
He added that many Sri Lankans have been conditioned to view leadership and progress through a lens of cynicism — a culture, he claims, fostered by those now in power.
