Prime Minister and Education Minister Harini Amarasuriya has issued a stern warning to government school principals who continue to defy official orders by collecting money from parents, despite a clear directive banning the practice.
Speaking at an event in Hambantota, the Prime Minister expressed frustration over the ongoing issue, stating bluntly, “Some principals do not listen to what we say.”
She revealed that the Ministry of Education continues to receive complaints about unauthorized fundraising from government schools and assured that swift action will be taken against those responsible.
To tackle the issue more effectively, she announced plans to bolster the ministry’s investigative units, admitting that the current lack of investigation officers has hindered timely responses to these complaints.
With increasing parental outrage and mounting reports of illicit collections in schools, the government now faces pressure to enforce its own policies and restore transparency to the education system.
