In a fiery accusation that has sent shockwaves across Sri Lanka’s political and diplomatic circles, a coalition of national organizations claims that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi coerced the Sri Lankan President into signing seven controversial and potentially unconstitutional agreements, including a major security pact, that could drag Sri Lanka into the center of a future global conflict.
The allegations were formally raised during a protest and petition signing event held at the Papiliyana Sunethradevi Maha Pirivena at 3:00 PM on the 30th. The event, presided over by Professor Ven. Induragare Dhammarathana Thero and Professor Ven. Medagoda Abhayatissa Thero, called for all seven agreements to be declared null and void on the grounds of breaching Sri Lanka’s constitution, flouting cabinet approval procedures, and undermining national sovereignty.
According to the National Organizations Alliance, led by Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara, the agreements violate key international conventions and bypass Sri Lanka’s legal and institutional safeguards. They claim Sri Lanka has been trapped in a $4 billion debt commitment through these covert deals, which were allegedly signed under diplomatic pressure and without full transparency.
Critics argue the agreements threaten Sri Lanka’s energy security, political sovereignty, and its strategic neutrality in South Asia, potentially pulling the nation into escalating regional tensions between superpowers.
As demands grow for clarity and parliamentary scrutiny over these secretive pacts, the event marks the start of what could be a major political and civil pushback against perceived foreign overreach and constitutional betrayal.
