Prasanna Sanjeewa was arrested over allegations that irregular passenger transport permits caused a Rs. 4.16 million state loss.
Prasanna Sanjeewa Opatha Vidanage, the former Chairman of the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority, was arrested today by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
According to the Commission, the arrest followed investigations into alleged corrupt practices and irregularities that occurred during his tenure in office.
He is accused of issuing passenger transport permits in violation of regulations under the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority Act and without following standard tender procedures.
Investigators stated that the alleged fraudulent activity caused a financial loss of Rs. 4,160,000 (Rs. 4.16 million) to the government while providing unlawful benefits to external parties.
