Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe disclosed that resigned Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Mohan de Silva had confessed to him in a telephone call from Australia that he tried his level best and failed to clean up corruption at the establishment.
De Silva left for Australia after resigning in what was viewed as testimony to large scale financial malpractices at Sri Lanka Cricket.
“Corruption is beyond imagination at Sri Lanka Cricket and this is what Mohan de Silva told me in a telephone call from Australia.”
“De Silva told me he did everything possible to remedy the situation, but it did not work that way,” Minister Ranasinghe told reporters in Kandy after visiting the Buddhist Temple of the Tooth.
When asked why only De Silva accepted the call to resign and the rest including SLC President Shammi Silva continue to cling on to their positions, Minister Ranasinghe replied that the fear of jail terms haunt them.
“They (SLC) have discussed in secret that a 15-year jail term awaits them if they resign and come out and I am revealing this with responsibility,” said Minister Ranasinghe.
